Corps members at the orientation camp at Ise/Emure Ekiti,
deserted their colleague who slumped on Friday for fear he was infected
with the deadly Ebola virus.
This was disclosed by the state Commissioner for Health, Prof.
Olusola Fasuba who spoke at an awareness forum in Ado-Ekiti, following
speculations in the state that Ebola virus had hit some towns, PM News
reports.
Olusola dispelled rumours that the youth corps member had contracted Ebola, saying he was only suffering of chronic fever.
According to him, when he got report of the incident, he quickly
swung into action, making sure the sick boy received immediate attention
from a team of health workers. A sample of his blood was also sent to
Lagos and the results came out negative to Ebola virus.
He said: “The corps member has been taken away from the camp and
is currently being kept at our isolated centre located within Oba
Adejugbe General Hospital, Ado-Ekiti. As I speak, I assure residents
that the health of the boy in question is already improving, while he
continues to show signs of good health far from Ebola.”
