P.M. NEWS Campus Square found that majority of the students studying for National Diploma and Higher National Diploma are yet to pay their fees and may possibly miss their first semester examination which is coming up in two weeks.
In a chat with our correspondent, Bimpe, a student at LASPOTECH, said that she might have to face the penalty because she is yet to pay her fees. “With the way I’m seeing things, I think I will defer my admission because I am yet to meet up with the amount required for me to write my first semester examination,” she said.
“I have made some payments like the ICT and acceptance fee, leaving me with the mandatory 60 per cent installment of the tuition fee. Many of my mates coming in as freshers are not finding it funny because only a handful of my classmates have paid theirs.”
Another student, Adekunle Mabel, a Computer Science student explained that: “My mother has been trying to raise money to enable me pay my fees in order to write the exams. But if I’m unable to come up with the money, it means that I will be going back home.”
Most of those affected by this development are in their final session in the school. “Those in ND3 and HND 3 that are hoping to graduate in October or November if the school calendar is not tempered with, are in dire need of money to pay their school fees,” a source said.
The source added that: “Failure to pay the mandatory 60 per cent means that they will not write the first semester exams and this will lead to an extra year.”
A text message sent to the students on 21 March mandated them to pay up today. “Kindly fulfill the 60% payment of your school fee on or before Friday 4-4-2014. Failure to do this will attract a penalty of N5000 only. Signed SPTSR DIRECTORATE,” the text message read.
But the text message did not indicate when the deadline for payment will elapse.
The students are however appealing to the school management to give them more time to enable them meet up with their payment.
